An exquisite, aromatic chocolate made with 82% Arriba cocoa from Rio Verde, Esmeraldas in northern Ecuador. A smooth melt with a rich, dark flavor. No trees were felled for the packaging. Paper made from sugarcane fibers. Contains two 30g bars.

Out of nowhere, Kuná won first prize at El Salon del Cacao y chocolate Ecuatoriano in Guayaquil (Ecuador) in 2012.

More than Fair Trade

Kuna is a brand of the Ecuadorian company FreshCosta, which – by our standards – operates a remarkable social policy. What we call fair trade is quite normal in Ecuador. At Kuna, it means social responsibility – firmly embedded in the entire concept. The well-being of the producers, job creation, and the cultivation of high-quality cocoa are essential components.

A balanced 82% cocoa content. Just as with the "Asociación Wiñak," a collaboration exists with the "Unión de Asociaciones Artesanales Eloy Alfaro de Esmeraldas" in north-central Ecuador, based on shared charitable ideals. This is the province in the upper left corner of the country. An interesting detail is that the population there is predominantly of African descent. This is supposedly due to the sinking of a slave ship off the coast. The cocoa from this region is very well-balanced with a fat content of 7%. Precisely because of its balanced flavor profile, there are many excellent chocolates with a higher cocoa content. Not bitter, but pure and with a perfect taste.

Eloy Alfaro won the “Aromas del Ecuador” prize in 2013 with her cocoa mass (the precursor to chocolate – also known as cacao liquor).
